Speaker: Stephen Mayne – is a Walkley Award winning former newspaper journalist who founded the well-known website Crikey.com in February 2000, and has remained as a contributor since selling it in 2005. He’s a former political spin doctor for the Kennett Government who also spent almost 8 years in local government, including 4 years as Finance and Governance committee chair at City of Melbourne. He is also Australia’s best known shareholder activist having asked questions at more than 400 AGMs and run for 48 public company boards. He is currently a director of the Australian Shareholders’ Association, but also campaigns broadly for transparency and accountability across the media, business and political sectors.

Topic: “Corporate Transparency” – Business, like big media and establishment politicians, has never been more on the nose than now – and that’s a global phenomenon. Stephen, who has more than 25 years’ experience putting business, media and politicians under the blowtorch, will explain what business needs to do to lift its standing in the community. Genuine consultation, exemplary governance, an ethical culture and maximum transparency are just some of the options which could work – if done properly.
