Music Society
From 1987 until 2012, St Aidan’s Music Society Inc. presented over 200 concerts in its annual series. In its 25 year history, the Society raised some $500,000 to provide a fine three-manual organ for the church and for recitals, as well as a grand piano. The Society was discontinued as an incorporated Arts organisation at the end of 2012.
Among the many artists who have performed for the Society in the past are:
- Organists: Dame Gillian Weir, Thomas Heywood, Frederick Hohman, Sergio di Pieri, Douglas Lawrence. John Mallinson, Travis Baker, Rhys Boak, Calvin Bowman
- Orchestras: Geminiani String Orchestra, New Monash Orchestra, Chamber Strings of Melbourne, Concordia Mandolin and Guitar Ensemble
- Choirs: Royal Philharmonic Choir, Australian Boys Choir, National Boys Choir, Ormond College Choir, Melbourne Welsh Male Voice Choir, Savoy Singers, Stonnington Singers and many others.
A new Music Committee of the Church Council will continue to present concerts from 2013. The concerts are open to the local community and beyond.
Details of future musical events will be listed at Concerts. Please email mail@nbuc.org.au if you would like to be included on the mailing list.
